1995 Ranger 3.0L code P0420
1995 Ranger 3.0L, Auto Trans, 2WD, Std Cab, Long bed
194,000 miles with original exhaust system including O2 sensors and converter.
PROBLEM - check engine light came on and code was P0420. My fault for not checking the parameters before I reset light, but, if it comes on, again, I will check them more carefully.
MY QUESTION - this truck was originally purchased and operated in California. Looking into replacement catalytic converters I see some are legal for CA and some are not legal for CA.
I have moved to Wyoming and no longer live in CA. If I end up replacing the converter on this truck, will I need to use a CA converter to keep things running normally? My concern is not about passing a vehicle or smog check, but I was wondering if a non-CA converter would send unexpected readings to the engine computer causing me more problems?
Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.
