Catalytic Converter
My check engine light came on and it turns out the catalytic converter looks bad (bad bank1 something on it).
I am assuming this is a job that is beyond my abilities. What should I look for regarding a fair price to have this job done? Anything else I should have done while doing this?

Post your exact failure code(s) and let us help. May not even be a bad cat but a bad O2 sensor. Which do you prefer to replace? A $200-300 dollar catalytic converter or a $50-75 dollar O2 sensor.

I have the same problem as well, i had it checked and run through a computer but mine came up with a bad converter. i was hoping for the sensor but my luck....oh well. my question is, how long can i run my truck with this problem...i really dont have the money and i try to drive it as less as i possibly can.Here in New York City....i was quoted for repairs of about $400.00 parts and labor. I got used to seeing my check engine light on all the time...but eventually i would like to have the problem fixed. i was told the worst thing that can happen is that i will notice a change in performance and will run alot slugish. thank goodness i havnt had those problems.
