Hey guys, its been a while since I have been on here.
So I need some help chasing down a gremlin.
Alright, it has been a while since I have posted, but I need some help in diagnosing a problem.
So I made a 400 mile trip a few weekends ago, and about half way back my truck shut off for no reason at all. I was cruising at 75mph and it just died. Pulled over to the side of the road and it started right back up. About 100 miles later it did the same thing. This time I checked the codes and all I got was a U0105-Lost communication to FICM. Started back up after two tries. The last 10 miles of the trip it died about every 45 seconds, I would pull over and try a couple of times and it would fire back up. Now I am sitting in my driveway and it will start when cold and run for a few minutes, but once it gets warm it dies and wont start back up.
So, I have ruled out the FICM Relay (swapped it with a known good one), no chafing on the wiring harness (I just had the harness out a year ago and I put an additional wire loom on just in case), all connectors are tight. I'm not sure where to go from here.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to test a few things that may help me diagnose.
Additional Info:
KOEO-
Sometimes the injectors buzz, other times they dont. I can hear the relay clicking on and off.
While Cranking
FICM logic Voltage = 12.5
FICM Voltage = 47.5V
FICM Sync = 1
Codes:
U-0105 Lost Communication with FICM
P-1378 FICM System Voltage Low (only got this on once, it cleared and hasnt come back)
Also, I swapped my FICM out with a known good one and the truck ran fine around the block. So I sent my FICM to Ed @FICMrepair.com and he did an upgrade on it (said the FICM was working but didn't pass the stress test).
I installed the repaired FICM, Drove down the street and made it about 500ft before it died again.
Sorry for the Book, but I wanted to give as much info as possible. HALP!
What exactly should I be looking for? I have checked all connections at the PCM, and the Connector from the PCM to the FICM. Anything I can test for at the PCM?
Thanks, I have actually read through that guide about 200 times now to make sure I haven't missed anything. I have performed all of the wiring tests outlined in that manual and still can't seem to find anything. Feel free to throw out more ideas!
ICP ICPV IPR show the Values at =KOEO,LOW,HIGH 2500 do you have a OEM Oil cap and Filter ? what does the ICP connection look like no oil out the back of sensor?
No oil at ICP sensor. Reading is normal when it is running 638psi @ idle. Goes up to 2500+ while cranking if it doesn't fire.
Use all OEM filters.
I should mention that last June I put in a new shortblock from Blackwater engines, at that time I replaced HPOP, oil cooler, bulletproofed W/ ARPs and OEM gaskets, EGR Delete, ETC... Was hoping to get another 230,000 miles out of it before another failure.
Heat damage is way high on the list of the more difficult things to detect. Before you go killing yourself on this issue, would it help you out if we sent you a wholly different module to test things that way?
Alternatively, you could pull the module again (ugh, I know) and we could pop it in one of our test 6.0's and go for a long drive to rule it out. Another alternative is that if you've got a buddy with a 6.0, you could pop their module into your truck to see if the issue goes away (any Powerstroke-programmed FICM will start and run any other Powerstroke).
Interestingly enough (and to add even more complexity), we have had two cases now (could this be the 3rd?) where one module worked absolutely fine in one truck and exhibited issues in another. We're still scratching our heads on those, but the trucks it ran great through was our two test 6.0's and the truck it reportedly didn't was on the customer's unit (in another state - meaning that we had no way to directly verify).
Just drop me an email to ed@ficmrepair.com with what direction you'd like to go. If you've got a continued U0105 code and have checked the wiring, the strong likelihood is that it is the module.
having the same problem with the u0105 code i have checked the wiring for anything that could be causing the problem. the battery voltage is 12.1 koeo and koer is 13.8 to 14.1. Load tested the batteries and ck'd out and passed . I have a solus ultra scanner and the fimc power is there and never gets under 48 volt on cranking the fimc logic and battery voltage is around 12.5 to 13.8. I have checked the connections at the pcm and the fimc and have not found anything that could be causing this. any help would be great in finding this
thanks
