I've never understood the canted quad headlight "thing". I remember when it was "the" big thing in the early '60's, almost every "Kustom" at the car shows had them. Did nothing for me then, even less now.
Apparently, this is what the death of a dream becomes. That is such a rough looking vehicle, the seller would be lucky to get 3K as it sits. Gotta wonder how long this thing has been a project.
I try to not to criticize any ones truck, especially when they have so much work into it, but $20K????, I think the owner of this custom, is going to have to finish it themselves. I think its sad that every usable part of the original panel has been cut up in the process of fulfilling this persons vision.
When I was a kid I used to think the Lincoln clip looked pretty cool. I
even built the AMT and Revel model kits of the the real first one. Now I
am more into stock with safety upgrades. Our taste sure can change.
I think from the late 50's to mid 60's, maybe even 1970 this would have
or could have been a hit. Today it just seems sic and wrong some how. I
think the builder was trying to hit what Berry I think his name was that
built the first one out of a pickup. Man I love the work back then of
Big Ed Daddy Roth. I think I built all his models. Now I wonder if all that
glue and paint in an enclosed unventilated room may have had any effect on
me. There was some great model kits back then and this style of custom
as they was called were some of the best and most sold.
Was it like Gene Berry or something like that to have built the original
Pickup with the Lincoln clip?
I sometimes wish I had the time and eye site to get back into building
them. Pretty hard to find any models other than the snap together
$10.00 planes in the stores around here.
Maybe I can find a hobby shop in Anchorage while up there tomorrow.
Almost as fun as an old junk yard for me.
I will say this about the eBay truck, I like it a lot more than any rat rod I've seen. At least this truck took some skill and wasn't just a pile of rusty crap thrown together for the shock value. Other than the overdone front clip the body lines for a custom aren't so bad IMO. The truck could actually be a pretty cool custom.
I always look at craigslist to see what's available where I'm
travelling. In the San Francisco Bay Area this week - Here is a bargain available out in the East Bay. Must be one of the conversions everyone is so
excited about doing.

It is no wonder he is selling it, looks like a really crazy idea that would take an enormous amount of work, time, and money. Too bad he took the F5? apart, somebody might have really wanted that.
I think the 35 grand that was 'invested' went into boiling & mashing large stacks of $100 bills into paper paste pulp and then sculpting that body with it & buckets of school glue.
