Are there any benefits/problems with gutting the cat on a 1997 F250 7.3? I do need to do emissions testing here in Maricopa County,AZ. Will mpg/performance increase or will gutting be a problem and not be worth it? Thanks!

I think that the main benefit is to lower the EGTs; none problems till I know. You can gut it and install in the middle a straight pipe (through inside of the cat) and in that way you will pass emisson tests, because the cat will look like OEM. ok
^^^ That will help you pass the visual inspection. You might not pass the rest of it, depending on how stringent your emissions testing is, regarding the individual numbers.
We have to test emissions here every 2 yrs. Last time I tested with the cat deleted, still had the muffler. I was afraid it would not pass with superchip set, after they double checked and all it passed, I hope i'll be as lucky this year.
When i did my first mods intake and exhaust i pondered over gutting the cat or deleting it, I deleted it and still have it in my garage if i ever need it.
