Took my 2010 F350 DRW 6.4ltr into the dealership for an oil/fuel filter change. Also had them check the brakes as they just didn't seem to be stopping as well as I would expect, especially with a 16' lowboy ~3000lbs. Got a call from the dealer saying that I needed a new brake hydrobooster to the tune of $1100. WTF, $1100...? Did some searches on here and would think if my hydrobooster was going out that I would have power steering issues?? yes/no? Havn't had any power steering problems at all, and the brake pedal doesn't go all the way to the floor.
Can this really be the hydrobooster, or am I expecting too much from my truck. Fixing to head out cross Texas with the family and 43' 5'vr, so I need my brakes in top condition, but I cant say for sure there was actually a problem. Any thoughts???
Hydroboost runs both brakes and power steering but they are on different systems. Just bought one from Auto Nation Ford it was $360.oo dollars. I believe the dealer here wanted $560.oo for one. Don't make since to me but if I was going to do it I'd tell them if it don't work they refund the bill. I would think it would be more in the master cyclinder then the hydro boost. Pedal doesn't need to go to the floor to be bad.
Talked more with the service tech, says the hydrobooster was leaking. I would think I would see something in the driveway if it was leaking, but who knows. Gotta do it, cant take the chance of having subpar brakes towing in the mountains. I'll find out in a couple of days if they are better when I pickup my 5th whl.
Got the dually back this morning and my first initial impressions are that the brakes are definitely better. Havn't pulled a trailer yet, buy they seem more crisp and responsive. So, good news so far.
