Just picked up a snap-on compression test or and it came with the 7.3 adapter M3545C. Does anyone have experience with this one? Do I need any extensions to make it wor on my 7.3?
I have a snap-on compression tester. not sure of the part number for my extension, but I got it from snap-on. Mine is just a rubber hose, about 8 inches or so long. One end screws into the glow plug hole and has an o-ring, the other hooks to the gauge.
Worked great for me.
That's exactly what I have.. Ive seen adapters that are fairly long to clear the head and I wasn't sure if I needed to add an extension to the metal adapter or if I could us it like it is.
If you have the short metal adapter, it might be the wrong thread to screw in, in either case I don't think you could get the gauge attached once the adapter is screwed in.
The flexible adapter is what I have, and it is only about $25 on snap-on's website.
You will need the a M-10 1.25 Pitch for the 7.3 DI System. I think the one in your photo shows the M-10 1.0 Pitch? Or I could have it backwards. let me go out and check mine.
I bought my Diesel Compression Gauge - Snap-on MT33C (used in great condition) for $100 from an ad on craigslist.org I have never been burned on craigslist, but I know it happens so quiz the seller good. They also come up on ebay, which has great buyer protection. I have no reservations with ebay whatsoever.
The Kit costs about $400 - $500 for the Snap-On. I haven't seen it separately but I can ask next Monday. I have seen them on e-bay and some other similar sites for about $150.00 for the Gauge and Case; Used of course.
My personal one is a K-D Kit which I got used from the Snap-On Truck for about $150.00 years ago and fits most Diesels.
For the DIY's its one of those "Whish I didn't have to spend the money only to use it once or twice".
Have you considered using a Harbor Freight Diesel Gauge (or any gauge that goes has high as 800 PSIG? and just purchase the Whip?
Yes. It's just the guage and plastic case. It does have a hose attached to the guage with a quick connect to attach the various adapters. Think the 7.3 adapter was around $15 or so.
