Guys, take a look at post #4 to see what I have. I bought the adapter from Snap-on and it wasn't cheap. I bought the gauge on ebay for a very good price, and later was able to find one on ebay for Chet for a good price too.
However, I just looked through ebay and can't really find any great deals. sorry.
Thank again for the advice and tips. I did the compression test and unfortunately have one cylinder way off. I have one at 450, four at 430, two at 420 and one way off at 275 psi. I was thinking maybe the injector could have had a leak and it maybe dropped the psi down so I swapped injectors from the cylinder with 450 and it still was at 275 psi. I ran out of time and had to go to a dinner for Halloween so I will get back to it tomorrow. I am thinking I should take the valve cover off and make sure the head is torqued down good and I'll try the compression test again other then that I'm probably gonna take the head off and see if the head gasket is bad. Its the passenger rear cylinder, #4 I guess? I'm going to replace the glow plugs on it tomorrow since I don't know for certain when they were changed and this has over 337K on it and smokes bad, might also do the injectors too. Any advice is appreciated thanks I know this is not the right thread but I'm gonna do more reading in more specific threads also.
You might consider more trouble shooting before removing head which is a lot of work to find out its the cylinder/rings that's loosing compression, head gasket failure on these is rare,a leak down test would tell You where the compression loss is,you wuld have to take it to a reputable shop or invest or borrow that tool.If its rebuild time some choose to do nothing & run like it is due to funds or ambition.
Did you do the "blow-by test"? That's where you put the oil filler tube cap upside down and see if it will stay except for vibration vs. it won't stay because the oil filler tube is puffing like a steam engine...
I would use the same hose and put air pressure in the cyclinder. Then listen closely and see where it is going. If its threw the exhaust it is an exhaust valve, threw the intake intake valve. Into the crank case piston or rings. 275 is really low.
