To be fair, it's really only a few supervisors of elections that are the problem. Only a few counties had problems.

There was never a need to change out the punched card machines anyway. I live in Collin county, Texas, and we use the same old punched card machines without incident. In fact I just "early voted" last week, using the same type punched card machine.

And the punched-card machines are NOT only used by the lower income districts, because Collin county has the highest per-capita income of any county in Texas.

I will be moving back to my home in Florida when I retire in a few years.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Sep-02 AT 09:33 AM (EST)]Actually Broward and Dade county were'nt the only places with problems. Here in Tampa and St Pete some polling places were'nt ready or open when they were supposed to be.IMHO the board of Elections here in Fla should be overhauled.

Tellico Racing i have friends in Kalamazoo and one of them is a lawyer that works thru Ford.My goal is in a few years to move to Virgina i have lived here too long and personaly have had it with Fla.

This is getting attention everywhere it seems but in South Florida. I went to the Miami Herald-Tribune website yesterday for more details and they scarely had any coverage on this issue. Seem to be conveniently ignoring the whole issue to save face.

The 'Here We Go Again' also applies to Janet Reno, another Clintonista ready to bring in a pack of lawyers if she can't win outright at the polls. What a bunch of total dunderheads.

Hey Wiz, have you checked the laws in Virginia? (maybe you don't care).
Radar detectors are illegal.
It is illegal to shoot a fleeing felon (even for police).
....

I am from the Panhandle Florida area, which is a totally different "country" from that part which is south of Jacksonville. I have lived in Texas for 14 years, but don't plan to die here.

When I get back to Fl, if they don't change the law first, I can show them my DD-214 and pay a fee and get my concealed carry permit.

Here in Texas, I have to take an intensive classroom and firing range class. Additionally, carrying a handgun in a vehicle, loaded or not without a permit is illegal, with few exceptions, WHICH ARE ONLY VALID IN COURT AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ARRESTED!

It is totally ironic to me that the home of the NRA is in a state which defies freedom.

Wiz, you have my condolences. It has to be tough living in a state that is becoming known for having highly publicized voting problems.

As for Ms. Reno......how will she claim partisanship? She's running against Democrats!!!!

But if you ever needed a reason to leave a state, having her in charge is the best one I can think of.

>Hey Wiz, have you checked the laws in Virginia? (maybe you
>don't care).

I lived in Roanoke for two years. And your point is?

>Radar detectors are illegal.

Big deal i don't have to speed to get where i'm going.

>It is illegal to shoot a fleeing felon (even for police).

So! Again your point is?

>When I get back to Fl, if they don't change the law first, I
>can show them my DD-214 and pay a fee and get my concealed
>carry permit.

I already have my CCW and can get one in Va to.

Winford if it were'nt for unfortunate circumstances i would still be in Virgina and now that i have full custody of my kids i'm working on going back.I have lived in this state since i was 4 till 95 and back in 97 so i have seen this place go from a nice place to live to nice place to visit but not to live. There is no need to be defensive Winford this is merely my opinion no one elses.

I happen to like Florida. Where else would you find such a diverse group of people. Proof being, 2 elections in a row just about as close to a 50/50 split as you can get.

I like Reno, I do think she should step down on this one though. But on the other hand, after someone puts all the time, effort and has many supporters & volunteers putting in their time also, I can see her point in not doing so. I don't know if all the papers reported all the problems with the Dade/Broward, but the news stations haven't so here's a few others that were NOT highlighted on TV (per our Palm Beach Post) -

1. Democratic voters were erronously issued Republican cards to vote on.

2. The voting cards were getting chewed up in the machines.

3. After the hours were extended, and not all the polling places knew this, many of the machines would not turn back on.

All of this and much more, and that's just in Dade/Broward. Plus, these two counties, where most of the voting problems were, are predominantly Reno supporters. I can see where she would have a problem with the voting.

Carlene my half sister and her husband are cops in Fort Lauderdale and they love Fla as well as living there. However i don't share their enthusiasm i'm 41 and have lived here long enough and feel it's time for a change.

I think it's sad that Fla is getting such a bad reputation surrounding elections. Those problems you stated have gotten plenty of press even in Va(just got off phone with a friend up there so i know)Here in Tampa half the polling places were'nt even up and running when they were supposed to and some were'nt open either.

Yeah, the same counties that had problems in the 2000 election. Sorry Wiz, but the rest of the country has just been given more evidence that the Democrat voter in those counted and a bunch of fricken morons. And the stupidest of the stupid are the 592,812 that voted for Reno. What a bunch of idiots, this is too funny. They demanded voting reform because their guy didn't win. They got it and they still can figure out how to vote. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...

2000 election, strike one.
2002 election, strike two.

One more strike and they will want to send in some UN types to supervise the elections down there. Maybe Jimmy Carter can step in and fill that role.

Whoa, that was kinda of harsh, let me rephrase that.

The stupidest of the stupid are the boneheads that didn't even bother to make any effort to go out a vote!

Here is my solution:
First have a national vote. All states have 2 days to have the final tally. Any state that does not have the votes counted or is having to recount them is removed from the union. Now we have no more problems with flordia.

The only way flordia can come back into the union is to vote themselves back in. same rules apply. they only have two days to have the final tally. When flordia finally comes back in they will know how to run their voting machines. Since this will take 10 to 15 years we should have no problems with the next couple of presidental elections.
