Here is an updated photo of the truck sitting upright. The pole was actually hit secondly after being hit in the door by another car. She was the passenger. I've seen too many of these that didn't turn out so well. Believe me, she is a very lucky lady!
Prayers from the "Plains of Kansas" on the way. Aren't we blessed to have emergency response people willing to put their own health and life on the line to aid the rest of us??
What's the status of the occupant(s) of the other vehicle? Are they ok? Looks like it was a heck of a hit. It's amazing that the box looks largely in tact.
The other vehicle was being passed by the med unit..there was a line of 4 cars that were pulling over, so the medic was passing in the left lane when the third car all of a sudden decided to turn left into that station, hitting the med unit in the right front wheel. The med unit then hit the power pole and flipped onto its side. The woman driving the car was not injured and was blamed for the accident. My partner's daughter was pinned in the truck in the passenger's seat, with it lying on the driver's side. Her partner held her up on his chest while standing on the ground, to allow the femur to be placed in more of a natural alignment to keep down the pain until she could be extricated. My partner(her mom) heard the call go out and was the closest truck to them. We both taught nearly everyone on the scene over the last 16 years as an instructor. Everyone on scene was truly amazed at how all of them kept it together. And yes, she transported her daughter to the trauma center. She has multiple fractures to her right leg and right wrist. She had one surgery last night, but she is looking at at least 3 more and then about 12-14 months rehab and 3-4 months non-weight bearing. There was also a student in the back of the truck at the time of the accident. He was not injured and performed extremely well during the incident. Thank you guys for the prayers and thoughts...I truly appreciate it and I know they do as well.
And Yes Doug, the box stayed amazingly intact. In fact, the student was able to open the rear doors to get out of the unit once it stopped moving.
As horrible as it is, they had an Angel above them looking out for them.
Golfmedic, like you I have a seen a lot of those types of accidents that didn't turn out that well. However, I also have to believe that having properly trained people immediately on the scene makes a huge difference.
Maybe its the angle of the picture but that van looks really destroyed. I'm glad everyone is alright and hope all those involved make a full recovery!!

It's not the angle..it is destroyed! The door intrusion bar that was in the passenger door where she was sitting, is driven through her seat, the back of the cab and into the first compartment behind her. That is a miracle in itself. A couple of inches more and it would've went through her chest. Some of the pics are very disturbing, but point out just how lucky they all are. I just left the hospital as she was going for a CT in prep for tomorrow's surgery. Continued prayers and many thanks for the ones already sent.
I hope they bring some swift justice to the driver of the other car. I feel causing this kind of accident should elevate it from infraction to criminal offense.

I see/understand your point but this in fact is still an accident.Im sure the other car didn't purposely drive into the ambulance. If she was drunk/drugs speeding then thats another story.Ive been a career firefighter/paramedic myself for 15yrs and driving with lights and sirens is a very dangerous part of our job.Ive seen many many accidents due to drivers doing the wrong thing when emergency vehicles approach. You have to expect the unexpected and sometimes thats not enough as was in this case.
Monty I hope she has a speedy recovery back to full duty.
