alternator

Well i think my alternator is dying now. I noticed monday after letting my truck sit all weekend that it cranked slower so i switched my SGII to monitor volts. Today looking at the gauge it is reading between 13.2-13.5 with no lights on doing 60mph and the A/C on 2. when i turn my headlights on it dips to 12.9-13.3v. I took it Orileys and had the batteries tested and both showed good. he tested the alternator and it showed bad and was reading 13.3 at the batteries on his tester.

my truck now has 190,000 miles and is on the stock alternator and the batteries are ac delco 650cca and were bought on 10/1/12. i have put about 50,000 miles since then.

I just wanted to make sure you agreed it is my alternator before i order one.

also i am planning on putting on a warn 16.5ti winch in the next few weeks so its not a bad time to upgrade both alternator and batteries.

for batteries i am looking at the platinum 900cca from sears but looking for input for the alternator. here are the amp draws for the pulling weights

any thoughts???

If your batteries tested good, why are you buying more? The difference in battery life is between a good alt and a bad one. If you were to buy a good DC, your batteries should easily last you another 2 years.

Lowest you want is a 140a, and thats just for basic. If you have any goodies you should go bigger

Damn, that winch pulls some amps. What is the most weight you think you'd have to pull with it...8k?

well the truck weighs 8400 on the curb now so factor in anything extra with me and how bad stuck and it adds up.

I've always had winches on everthing i own but i wasn't planning on putting one on this truck because i try to stay out of the mud. however i frequently need one and have to either get my old truck or use chains to move trees or anything else. also the other day i burried my truck up behind the house and it ended up taking my tractor with a warn 9000ti and another truck with a warn m12000 to pull me out. neither would do it on their own. so i figure go ahead with the 16.5 and have it for another 40yrs.

thanks for the help so far with DC power. I was looking at their 270xp as we speek. does anybody know how much it is from Ed at FICM repair? any pros or cons? i would rather not spend the extra 200 for the 320.

Will the 270 be enough? Are those amps listed constant during the pull, or just a burst to get the winch moving?

You'll save a few bucks through Ed
