Another dumb tire question for you guys. I found this crusty 16" split rim in the shed, and im not 100% sure if there's anything special to taking them apart. As far as I can tell, you pop the beads, and pry the lock ring off.
I'd like to not have to destroy the tire together them separated, even though it's bald as all getup
As far as I've read from you guys, regular split rim/ lock rings that aren't widow makers aren't going to explode on me, but either way I've already removed the valve core and stayed off to the side while unscrewing it so it's definitely stable now lol
That's got lots of life left. I've got a couple that were on the Merc that would make that one look like new. It amazes me how far people used to drive on bald tires back in the day, and apparently think nothing of it.
I'll be interested in hearing how your interest in saving the junk tire declines by the minute as you fight to get it off the rusted rim. Commonly getting the ring off isn't the hard part. Rust and crud have no doubt grabbed the liner flap and are holding it to the rim. If it doesn't come off quickly once the ring is removed I'd recommend a sawzall. Stu

Amen to this. I broke down the combat rims on the IHC M-1-4 ambulance I had. I couldn't get the &@#*ing tires off the rim. I even ran the tire over with a large forklift trying to get it unstuck from the rim. Took several tries before it pulled free. Luckily only one gave me fits. The others only took one or two runs.

Haha, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to do this. My dad showed me that trick, using the farm tractor. Extreme cases he used the dozer blade.
Sometimes a bottle jack under the truck bumper.....

I've been there way too many times, even some the fork wouldn't pop off.

I've been known to use the stabilizers on the backhoe.
