I don't know the answer but you might check install doctor www.installdr.com
Also one of the guys did a post in this heading about speakers in Explorers I think. You might look for the post and see if he knows. It was a week or two back.
they have a lot of good info about factory stereos.
If I was to guess, it would be under the seats or in a rear storage compartment or wheel well hump. The premium amp is about 12x8x2 and is usually silver or black color and has one connector on each end. At least the three that I own and the several that I have seen look this way.
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson

Ooops, the guy I mentioned actually did a tutorial on Speakers in a Ranger, but still he might be knowledgable about your problem.
Look thru the posts, some of the guys have worked on Explorer stereos and may know the answer.

Thanx.. I was afraid of it being in the wheel well.. But I've traced some of the wires. (as well as asked some buddies) and I'm pretty sure that's were I'll find it. Was hoping it's in a more accesible place.. Didn't want to rip the entire back apart for it.. Ahh well.. looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

Eternias.. The location is on the right side.. just where the wheelwheels' top is. (would be about 1-2 feet forwards from where the fluid container is, but on the right side)
What you have to do is take the plastic moulding off the back of the truck.. (pull up the carpet.. unscrew the 3 screws on the bottom. 2 on the side, the seatbelt harness screw, and then just pry it off)
