The cooling system is designed for the coolant to absorb the heat of the oil and the block. The coolant is then cooled by the air flowing thru the radiator. The air flow absorbs the heat of the coolant.
Unplug the sending unit, clean the terminal and plug it back in. Same thing happened to me and it had a high resistance connection at the plug. You should also post the year and all mods, esp. engine related, in your sig. Makes it easier for people to help you.
