Newbie with a project
Well I'm new to the site and done some searching around on the web for the best place for info and this seems to be the place. 1959 custom cab factory 4x4 f250 with a 292 that is locked up. Here is my question would everyone rather see this pickup restored as original as possible or kinda updated. I was thinking a 302 with a c6 and some axels out of a Highboy. Gives me a little bit more modern running gear and better motor is my thoughts. Now back on the 292 there's a tag on the side of the block where it was overhauled on the 80s but the old farmer parked it when he go older and he was upset when he went back 4 years later and he couldn't get it to turn over.

I'm currently fighting between two projects this and my 79 and then my wife is having twins so who knows when I'll get time and energy for this. I've tried selling it hopefully to a ford enthusiast but I'll I got was people wanting itmfor scrap

Nice looking truck. Looks like a great driver after the usual brakes, gas tank and lines, clutch master, etc... Nothing wrong with the axels you have! Just go through them and clean and replace what is needed. Besides, the newer axels are wider. 292 is a good motor, hope you can bring it to life. I personally favor restoration but that is only my opinion. It definately takes more effort to make the old stuff work though.

Being the F250, you already have the good axles - Dana 60 in the rear and Dana 44 in the front. Pretty much the same as used in the hiboys. The only thing you might want to do is eventually change the ring and pinion sets as yours is likely the 4.56 ratio. The 4.56 pulls good, but limits your cruising speed.

Thankyou for your observational prowless! I get pretty confused between the '59 and the '60! You probably wouldn't know how many times I have pointed this kind of error out to folks. Thought perhaps some of you newbies could took up some of the slack!
