Hey guys new to forum! but I've been following it for a few years now as I love the ford diesels. But long story short I finally broke down and bought one! Super excited when I bought it because it's a 1994 four-door F350 turbo diesel 5 speed. I drove it for a while probably about a week or so and started having an issue with acceleration. Here's what happens from a complete stop I accelerate and it will accelerate just fine but once I shift the service engine soon light comes on and I lose all power from that point I'm only able to go about 5 mph... I can pull over turn my truck off turn it back on and re-accelerate but as soon as I re-accelerate the service engine soon light comes on in the same issue arises... I don't know if it's a wiring issue or where to start all I know is that as soon as the service engine soon light comes on I lose all power and am only able to go about 5 miles an hour. Any help or advice is greatly needed as I've taken it to two mechanics and neither one of them can figure it out. Thanks in advance! Desperate in oklahoma
Have you pulled the codes? I would start there and see if that gives you any leads? Also, search on here for threads around the "limp" mode. It sounds like it is going into limp mode and maybe you can backtrack some of the reasons it goes into limp mode and find your problem. Wish I could be more help.
When CEL comes on does the engine run rough, like missing on cylinders? If so you might have burnt valve cover gasket connections. If not it may be something as simple a sticking IVS (idle validation switch) located on the go peddle which would cause the engine to stay at idle regardless how much you pushed on the go peddle.

It seems to idle ok with the CEL on just won't go over 5 mph no to hardly any acceleration once the CEL comes on. Until I turn it of and turn it back on then it accelerates fine until that CEL kicks on. I have taken it to two mechanics so far. I'm at a loss. It's sitting at a 3rd mechanic who is supposed to be a ford specialist. He says he thinks the injectors are fine which I was stressing but a wiring issue? I don't know i just can't believe they can't locate it and I don't have the money for a ford dealership or I'd take it there.

Take it easy man!. First try to pull the codes as mentioned above. BTW not ALL the scanners can pull the Ford PSD codes, it has to be specific for FORD diesels ok?
I think thease guys have you pointed in the right direction with a wiring issue. Codes will tell the real story. You need to find someone with a scanner that will talk to the truck. Not all do. Our trucks are not obd 2 compliant, which means while they have the same port, how they communicate is different.
As far as the valve cover harnesses, you can check those yourself easy enough. There's 2 electrical connectors a side, any sign of melting or burnt pins would cause things not to work right.
Where in Oklahoma are you located? Also, I don't mean to sound insulting, but to get you the help you need I have to ask. There where 3 diesel motors available in 1994 -
the IDI-Non Turbo
The IDI Turbo
And the DI Turbo
All are different and we need to know which one you have.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the tulsa area? None of these seem to be able to pinpoint my issue and have wasted my time and money so far.. Also it seems since obd1 a little harder to find a mechanic with this reader :/
