Hey guys, for those of you who have the 5.5' box and would like a toolbox but can't afford to give up any more space in your bed as it already is quite cramped...
I got this job box at the home depot for $130ish. I've had it since January, taken it through at least 20 car washes and it hasn't leaked yet. The handles are riveted into the plastic so they dont separate easily- and I have it secured with a ratchet strap right now, however will get around to putting a locked chain on it once I start travelling to the shadier neighborhoods.
Also, the lid is on structs, and has just enough room to open fully without smashing into the back window when its tucked up against the back of the bed.
Oh lastly, I have quite a bit of stuff in mine, and it doesn't break in -10F weather with 4 guys lifting it out
I had a heck of a time trying to decide what type of tool chest to put in.
The diamond plates can be stupid expensive!
Some of the plastic stuff is spendy too!
This Delta is really thin and light - NOT expensive.
Had to make a couple phone calls to Sears to special order it.
It cost about what you paid. It is very thin though and was dented when I took it out of the box.
Tool chest in F150
Very nice, if I didn't "acquire" the full size Weathergard I have now from a former employer I'd get something like that. My box is really big but hey, the price was right!
How do the metal boxes mount? The whole issue I found was they all bolt in, so when I need my bed on a whim I have to unbolt it and empty it to get it out, where as this plastic jobber with the handles is easy in and easy out.
"How do the metal boxes mount?"
I bolted mine in. It could be strapped in also.
Exactly. My issue with the bolt ins, is if you have the micro box from factory, and all of a sudden need to move a pallet sized object, motorcycle, car engine, etc. Its a PITA to get the bolt in box out. So to get around this problem this is what I came up with. Hopefully it helps those of you out that occasionally need a larger bed but also need to fit in conventional parking spaces even more often and the 6.5 or 8' bed prohibits that.
