Unhappy 1995 460 issues.. need help

hey guys, its beenb a while since ive been on here, unforinutlly i am havinga very hard time trying to figure out what is going on with my truck.. so to start off.. i have a 1994 f350 dump truck completely torn down and redid the entire frame along with a new cab. i put a 1995 460 in it due to the old one having over 370k on it and needed a rebuild. well over the course of the last few months i have been working on it almost every day trying to pin point where my issue is..
The Issues..
1. running Exteremly rich... im talking less then a mile per gallon.
2. truck has no power.
3. you can hear a popping noise in the exhaust or intake while trying to accelerate.
4. CEL comes and goes as pleases.

im hoping one of you guys will be able to point me in some kind of direction.. lol im lost.. trying to get it done so i can use it to build my garage this summer... got a nasty build coming up.. would love to do it inside a shop for once lol

any help would be great. thanks

Not sure why it is out of place in the BBF forum.

My initial thought is your valve timing. Did you use the stock cam? Did you make sure the timing gears were lined up?

If you were off by one or two teeth on either sprocket, your symptoms would exist.

Which PCM did you use? The original or did you take it from the 95 donor? What motor did your truck have initially?

hey guys sorry it took so long to get back on here to reply. been building my 78 F-250 with little spare time i have after working my 16 hour days fixing broken diesel trucks... lol well i just got home had to try out my new temp gun and found something interesting about whats going on with then engine.. so to clear a few things up... i have a ford rebuilt computer in the truck for that engine matching partnumber and vin for that engine. so i do believe there should be no issue there. i did pull some codes out of it finally. i have one for insunifcant(i cant spell..) egr flow. brand new egr and pipe with new manifold. circut failure for both the T.A.D and CANP. not sure where to look on that. now for the intersting thing i found tonight. here are the ehaust themps on the manifolds with the truck idling all warmed up.

back of engine
160 320
300 250
200 420
390 340
front of engine

mind you i have always owned ford and i have been able to trouble shoot just about anthing.. but i am completely lost... older trucks are so much easier.. thats why i love my 78 lol but if you guys have anyrthing to point me in a direction that would be great

It is very difficult to get accurate cylinder temps off of the manifold after it is warmed up and hot. It does seem strange that you are colder in the back though.

With the codes you have it leads me to think you have a severe intake manifold vacuum leak, a leak in one of the chincy plastic vacuum lines, or that your lines are not routed properly. Double check for these leaks and triple check your line routes. There should be a diagram on the drivers side valve cover, on the bottom of the hood or laying right up top behind the grille.

I would check your injectors. It sounds like your running lean on the hotter temp cylinders.

Did you remove the spout connector when you set the ignition timing?

Yes I removed the connector to set timing. Its currently at 10° tdc. I haven't checked the injectors yet but hopefully this week I will have time too

Figured you did but worth a shot. How dose it run at an idol? Vacuum leeks or injector problems usually are more noticeable at low rpm.

nothing noticable at idle. its idles smooth and clean. no misses or hickups. but i have dual tanks and was running low on the reat tank so swithced to the front and the truck died and seemed like it wasnt getting fuel. after a few tries at priming it i got her fired back up again. now it idles even better but asoon ad i go to accelrate or even just rev the engine it bogs way down and almost dies. im loosing my mind over this thing...

Vacuum line to your fuel pressure regulator? You should recheck your pressure with it running when you lay in to it.

Other ideas I had including the aforementioned injectors...
Fuel filter- cheap to replace and pry needs it anyway
CAT? Could be partially plugged? Cut that B out out of there if you don't need it.

I'm most interested in your FDM's check the fuel pressure with it running at idle and off idle. Compare your 2 tanks and report back.
