I left for work this morning and it started fine. I stopped to get gas and when I went to start it back up it wouldn't start. It sound like the started is turning the engine, but it just won't start. I checked the feul cutoff switch and it was still engaged...I guess my question from here on is what are the simple things to check first before looking at major things? What is a procedure to check it? Any info will be helpful.
Another question...say it is the feul pump what is an estimated cost on having it replaced?
No. OBD-II codes can't be pulled without a scantool. The Haynes manual will show you how to check the fuses & everything else. Just read the Troubleshooting section, the Fuel & Exhaust chapter, and examine the wiring diagrams in the back. Your '96 is slightly different from the '92 wiring shown, but it's close.
yo,
just for the heck of it...I did son #2 a favor by getting his car inspected, then washed it and filled gas tank at a chitNoGo station...got home and then..cranking, but no runny....tuens out they had diesel fuel in their tanks...
just letting you know about the simple, but dumb check..
Also, how's da battery and terminals/cables/? Is it turning over as well as normally?
yo,
We had a freakin' adventure trying to figure out what happened. Eventually, we called the station and they admitted that they had a full tank of diesel in their reg octane gas tank(s).
some said that it couldn't reach the engibe because the fuel filter would clog; but the diesel did reach the plugs, etc.
One way to ck is to look at a plug or two and see if it is fouled; another way is to take a sample of the gas to get it analyzed at a dealership (where the car was towed to after we tried to read the codes).
Call the station for the heck of it and ask them if they've had any complaints.
