Can't help with the serial number, but the locking bolts go in from the front.

I don't have an answer because I don't know what you are working on or where you are, both can be helpful when answering questions. Go to the blue band just above this forum, at the far left click on User CP add your location then add a signature that contains the year and model truck you are working on.

The straight axle is installed with the king pin tipped toward the rear a couple degrees. The angle is called "caster". Seeing the caster angle can be difficult but doable. Place a dowel or other snug fitting tool in the king pin hole and the angle will be more easily seen. There may be witness marks on the back side of the axle where the turn limiter screws have hit.

Before you bolt the axle in place, add a set of caster shims between the axle and the spring to increase the caster (tip the top of the axle back more) if using stock springs or two sets (you'll need spring center bolts with longer heads if using 2 sets) if you have removed leafs or are using lowering springs to increase the caster for highway use. The stock setup is caster challenged to make low speed steering easier back when parallel parking was the norm. Be sure to put two large C clamps on the spring one each side of the centerbolt if changing them, the spring packs a lot of tension, and can fly apart with substantial force if the bolt is suddenly released.
