I'm new to the powerstroke diesel's wanted to know what the ticking sounds are that I am hearing. Most noticeable when lightly tapping the accelerator. Truck seems to run just fine, but I have no clue if the ticking/grinding noises I'm hearing are normal for these engines.
She gets a workout every now and then pulling the fiver and boat. Will be heading to colorado on wednesday with the fiver and boat. I took it to the local Ford dealer, diesel tech claimed it was normal.
These engines use pilot injection to quit down the traditional diesel noise. I think when revving the engine the pilot injection process can't maintain complete noise reduction therefore some additional noise will be heard.
Did you recently change the oil? Mine makes a loud ticking sound at ft of engine and underneath for 2k miles after oil change. I took to Ford and Im told nothing to worry about "yeah right" I talked to a great mech and he informed me that when oil is drained the oil is removed from the timing chain tensioner and it take a good while for it to build pressure enough for the chain to tighten again (as it is done thru oil pressure)
Again mine sounds like a piston or rod knock for 2k miles after that its fine.
