ExxWhy, I had to change the tank because it started to leak, I did a 3 day clean with some prestone clean and flush, thats when the tank started to develope leaks.
Just to be clear, prior to the flush and subsequent tank change, it did not overheat?
If so, sounds like you have some crud that was dislodged in the flush and is now in the radiator. More thorough flushing sounds like the next step with both hoses off and a garden hose pushing a lot of water both ways through the radiator. .
Yes Sir, prior to all that I didnt have a problem, I am going to try one more bottle of clean and flush after work and pull the lower hose of the radiator and rig a garden hose to the expanstion tank hose and see what happens, other wise I will have to order parts from ford and they will not be here till wed due to the holiday.
Well, its starting to come together as to the problem, I noticed the cap was cocked after she overheated and thought I put the cap on cocked, but it is the threads on the tank, they don't hold the cap tight, I put some Teflon tape on the threads and it seems to work, no more parts store parts for me, thanks for the help guys.
It's important to have those caps working right and you can check them an O'reillys at the counter. If those threads are bad I would get another overflow tank.
ExV10 I have to wait till tues to get a ford oem tank due to the holiday. I have had 2 caps on the same tank, the one it came with and a ford oem cap, only thing different is several layers of 3/4 " Teflon tape on the tank threads and I am using the new ford cap, so come tues and $120 later Ill have a oem tank , I just put 20 miles on the highway with no temp rise and Teflon tape so it seems to be the threads on the tank.

Wow, can you get one from a wrecking yard? I bought a new cap that just spun on my tank this year and the next one was defective so I went to Oreilly's and borrowed their tank and cap testing kit for free, then their new thermo was defective which I discovered by heating it in water on the stove and replaced that with a Motorcraft one and finally got my overheating and failsafe problem over with. Those things are cheap so it pays to get OEM ones but I can't believe they want so much for a tank. If you have an Oreilly's there you can test that whole system with their free loaner tools.
