I have a 4 X 4 2003 supercab 4.6L V8, 3.55 rear, manual transmission. About 4,000 miles on the odometer.
Started with about 15.5 mpg. Currently getting around 17 (combo city and hiway). Sometimes drops a bit below 17 for mostly city driving.
You should be aware I am a conservative driver. No jackrabbit driving from one light to the next light. I do however like to travel at the max speed limit and then some when on the hiway.
Hauling a 1,000 lb tractor in the bed seemed not to effect mpg (but that was hiway driving).
I am no judge of my truck's mileage yet,as I've only burned one tank; but my 03 burned the first tank at 13.75 mpg in combo city stop and go and interstate highway.
I am told it takes upwards of 5000 miles before the engine will get it's best mileage. That does depend of course on how you drive.
Just finished a 3,000 mile round trip to from NY to FL in my 99 F150 extended cab, 4 x 4, 5.4L with 3.55 gears.
I have a tonno cover which added 1 to 1.5 MPG at highway speeds.
I got just over 18 MPG on the first part of the trip at speeds around 65 MPH, then as I got further south it dropped to just over 17 MPG at speeds around 75 MPH (speed limit increases to 70 in the south).
One the return trip I was towing a 92 Taurus on a tow dolley and averaged just under 15 MPG on the 1,500 mile return trip.
I get pretty consistently around 15 mpg in mixed city/highway driving 50 miles daily. I drive much more conservately with this truck than my other car which I usually get heavy foot with. I once got 17 mpg when I drove on highway with few mountain passes.
My 03 Screw 5.4L 4x2 just hit 2000 miles. I'm averaging about 19-20 highway and around 16 city. I don't run it hard, but cruise around 75-80 on the freeway.
It's stock except for the hard tonneau cover. My 99 S'Cab only got around 14 city and about 17 highway. I think the new 5w20 Motocraft oil helps a bit. Will see what it look like when I change to 5w30 Mobil 1.
