1997 Ford F-150/Stereo
I am the soon-to-be proud new owner of a '97 Ford F-150 XLT Supercab. I'm getting a great deal, and I'm looking forward to it. The only thing I don't like about the truck is it doesn't have a CD player. Only AM/FM/Cassette. Any idea if there is an AM/FM/CD player that I can swap out fairly easily or at all? I don't care about having the cassette player...if it's included, fine, but I can live without it. I don't see an open slot to add a separate CD player, and I'm very new to all of this (obviously?!) Please help! Does anyone know what my options might be? Thanks al

You might try the stereo section of this forum for more help.
I installed a XM radio with CD player in my truck. I got all the nick nats through Crutchfield. It was very easy and took about an hour to install the radio in a manner that the whole thing looked nearly stock. The adapator kit - works very well.
Without XM, you could probably get a CD player installed for less then $250.
If you wish,I could email you a picture of how it looks now.

I viewed the photos of your stereo installation.
I have a '97 F-150 and I would like to remove my cassette stereo and replace it with a factory CD player. It doesn't seem to be possible to remove it with U hooks with the dashboard faceplate covering the edges of it.
Did you need to remove the dashboard faceplate before removing the stereo?
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Let me tell you that you can install almost any stereo that you want. Yes the dash-plate pulls out and the your U-hooks will pull the stereo. If you are looking for a kit and wiring harness, I use the links below. They are really cheap and shipping is pretty good.
www.cmttrading.com - for cheap stereos and equipment.
www.stereoinstallparts.com - for your kit and harness.
I also recommend you buy a little electrical kit at a parts store Wal-mart sucks for things like that. Make sure you have a set of krimpers and your tube shaped wire connectors, or you can use wire nuts if you choose. Its a realatively simple task that'll give you a real feeling of accomplishment when you're done. Remember whn putting things back together to be just a little bit more careful when you were taking them apart. The dash-plate may fight you a little just be careful and have fun!
If you have any questions along the way I'll be tracking this thread.
