What is this?
Was hearing a clanking sound whenever I would back up My 2001 Ranger, Looked under the truck tonight, and saw this large ring hanging off the front of the drive shaft. What the heck is it, and can I take it off so it won't cause any issues?

It appears the collar on the end of the shaft came loose. I would try to get it back in place and maybe use a small amount of JB weld evenly applied.
If you remove it, it could throw the drive shaft out of balance and cause a drive train vibration and eventual seal failure or worse.
