I have a 1970 F100 4x4 but it was missing the locking hub on one side so I bought mile marker locking hubs to replace the oem but I noticed one side had the pressure spring and the other did not. Will the mile markers work without the pressure spring?
Welcome to FTE!
I am not familiar with that brand of locking hub but I can't imagine ANY manual hub not needing one. IMHO I'd buy 2 new ones. Call me over-cautious but these springs are cheap so,why not? Here are some places that show as having AT LEAST 2. Call 'em and get the best deal. Parts AND shipping. Part number C9TZ1A054A.

All the locking hubs that I know of all use the big pressure spring. Did your mile markers come with a new spring in one and not the other? Or are you reusing your old spring? Did they have installation instructions or a diagram? That will show you whats all needed. My Yukon hubs came with a diagram along with new springs.
That same guy must have been working on my 4wd cause mind only had one also.
I had full time 4wd and changed it over to free wheeling. I remove that big coil spring and seat cup.
I never noticed or had any problems with out it as looked. That was back in 1978.
I installed Mile Makers also no problems with them either..
