Question Battery cable size

What is the correct gauge size for the battery cables on My '59 F100 with the 223? The ground cable, and cable from solenoid to starter are both made up from huge 1/0 gauge welding cable, positive cable was gone) I thought these were way too big. So I need to know what size I need to go buy for the cables

are you making your own cables? if not then the pre made cables at Napa or any auto parts store should work...I don't know exact gauge to be honest

Thick battery cables were used with 6 volts, 12 volt battery cables are much thinner.

1957/60 F100/600:

Positive battery cable-battery to starter relay: 19 1/2" long / Negative battery cable-battery to ground: 18" long.

These were on the truck when I got it, I suspect previous owner put those on it.

BTW - electrically speaking there's no such thing as "too big."

If its an aesthetic thing, then by all means change them.
