Well I'm running at higher rpms and not getting the response from the truck. When I downshift there is a delayed response from the motor and no immediate "jump" in rpms. It's not hard to get in gear except sometimes into first from a higher gear. No grinding just minor resistance from the stick when downshifting into first. Never really bothered me and I never have to fight it much.
typical ZF5 IMHO...we did the single mass flywheel change at 252K on our IDI rollback and it only made it noisier coasting in low gears...trans was done soon after at 260K...I do NOT think the flywheel change caused the issue as it was dry when they pulled it, a driver took it out of town for a tow and did not pay attention to the trans noise and locked it up
FWIW I did this on my 97 Powerstoke with LuK as I recall about 100,000 miles ago and it was better in every way except the gear noise at low RPM. I pay no attention to it and let it growl but mostly try to keep the RPM up when possible. It has served me very well over all these years.
