Solid vs. Dual Mass Flywheel

My clutch is going bad on my 7.3 IDI ZF5. I'd like to get your opinions on whether or not its worth it to replace my stock DMF with a Luk SMF kit. I dont want to have to rebuild the transmission from the extra strain put on it through the SMF, but I also don't mind some gear roll noise if that's the extent of the negative effects.

From what it looks like I'll be spending about the same for either the Luk kit or a new DMF. But having the "reliability" of a longer lasting clutch would be nice

Thanks

It is a no brainer. SMF

Guys are putting 500hp+ thru these trans with Zero problems, neither will you

I also recommend a Valair 13" HD Organic clutch
One step up from stock and will handle most mods short of stage one injectors

Nope. Anything hydraulic related to the clutch is external of the bell housing so it can be done at any time down the road

Is your clutch slipping?

If so, it can be a couple things.

1. the clutch is bad and no longer grabs the flywheel or pressure plate

2. There is trash(vermin media) in the pressure plate not allowing it to squeeze the clutch disc

3. the hydraulics are not releasing and again not letting the pressure plate squeeze the clutch disk.

4. there wis contaminants on the disc letting it slip.

Or is the transmission hard to get in gear?

Again a couple of scenarios..

1. Hydraulics are not moving far enough to disengage the clutch

2.it is disengaging but the syncros are bad not allowing it in gear

3. bent forks in the trans not allowing to get in gear

4 the linkage from the pedal is worn enough to not allow the correct travel to push the master cyl and you can't get it in gear
