What Trany Do I Have?
How do I determine what trany I have.
I have a 24 feet 1984 Ford M/H with a 460 V8. I'm concluding it is a 1 ton. What I need is to install a new trany gasket. I called my local Ford Dealer and his info no longer goes back 30 years.
I go to an auto parts store and they ask me what trany I have.
Thanks for your help.
Brian
PS: Could I just buy some gasket material and trace one from the pan? If so, what kind of gasket material should I purchase.

It's a C6 .. has 17 trans pan bolt holes.

Class A or C motor home: It's one ton Econoline (E350), if a Class C, it's a E350 "cut-away."
A cut-away is a cargo body that Ford cuts off behind the front seats, so that Class C, box van, ambulance, people mover and etc. bodies can be mounted.
Class A is mounted on a E350 'rolling' chassis.
The A/T is the C6 .. the pan gasket (C6AZ-7A191-B) is the same 1966/97 (!) for all FoMoCo vehicles and can be bought from any auto parts store.
What surprises me is, the IDIOT at the Ford dealer didn't know what A/T a 1984 Econoline came with. ALL 1975/88 E100/350 (Econolines) came w/a C6, regardless of the engine size.
btw: Horizon Ford (horizonpartsguy.com) in Seattle (Tukwila) is an FTE sponsor, gives online parts discounts to members.
C6AZ-7A191-B .. C6 Pan Gasket - MSRP: $11.38 - horizonpartsguy.com online price: $8.88.

I know back in the mid 70's/early 80's, it was common practice to go salvage yard hunting for a E-van auto trans, to replace a C4 or FMX that failed in a car, since the E-vans always had a C6 in them....... (unless manual trans equipped)

Any partsguy worth a damn should know what A/T's Ford offered in Econolines, regardless of what year they are.

I agree Bill, but the general concensus at most stealerships these days, is to ignore anything older than 5-10 years. These vehicles are considered insignificant to the entire staff.
I was talking to Ford parts guy recently that actually worked with my father ~25 years ago. He was astounded that I have, and still drive, that old green truck dad drove back then........

Partsguy says customer asked him to find a heater control panel for his 1956. He has the old panel...I look at it, it has a C6VB ID number prefix marked on it.
I said...you've been in the biz for 30 years...doncha know by now that C6VB refers to 1966, not 1956?! He looks at me and says, how could I have been so dumb, I didn't notice that.
Then asks if I have a 1965/72 L/M catalog. Yes, I do...you want to borrow it? Yup.
