FNG in NorCal
Hello! I recently purchased a 1953 Mercury M100 from British Columbia. I have Joined FTE and Ford Barn in an effort to learn as much as possible about these great trucks. This is my first project vehicle and I am excited about getting her ready for the road. Like many other M100 owners out there, I am looking to purchase a Mercury tailgate. Mine is fairly rusty. If anyone out there knows where one can be purchased, I would appreciate the info. Also, I have what I believe to be four '53 hubcaps in need of restoration. Any names of rebutable hubcap smiths would also be helpful. I look forward to hearing from other M100/F100 owners who won't mind helping out this FNG. Thank you!

Northern Classic Trucks was reproducing the 53-68 Mercury tailgate, but a search of their site said they're tailgates are discontinued. Probably something to do with Ford's licensing costs and no longer being profitable for the low demand, I'm guessing. Too bad, because they did a nice job. You might check with them, just in case.

On the trailer coming home
Thanks for the info, here is a picture of my truck on the way home from Canada. The boarder officer insisted the vehicle was made in India and charged me an import duty. I later got proof from Ford of its Windsor birthplace and was able to get a refund of my duty fees. I plan on replacing the original steering components and I am waiting on a rebuilt steering box (back order). Then upgrade the brakes to discs. I intend to keep the flatty, but beef up the HP a bit. I would like to replace the three speed with a four speed (I already have it), and replace the leaf springs with modern mono leaf springs. Then I will work on the body and repaint.

Welcome Merc Man from another mercury truck guy, Very nice looking truck. Hold on to those hubcaps because they are hard to find.
Got a couple questions about your hubcaps if you don't mind.
Are they stainless or chromed steel ? Original to this truck ?
And any original paint colour left on the letters ? Thanks for any answers you can supply.
