Yes, the knock is definitely on the odd side of the engine (pax). Also is much louder on the bottom of the block.
I am not sure if the intake plenum is in the way or not... the valve cover has a serious lack of bolts. If just 4 bolts hold down the valve cover and that gets me access to the top end, then no, the intake plenum is not in the way. Hopefully this compression check can tell me more soon.
