4x4 or 4x2?

I think I have seen every picture of every dent side on the web (i know I haven't, just a figure of speech).

If I had to guess I would say the 4x2 trucks are outnumbered 3 to 1 by the 4x4s. I thought I would create this post with a poll and see what the numbers are on here.

I don't think it will let you vote more than once so vote for the truck you drive or like the most. If it will let you vote more than once please do for each truck you have.

I would like to limit it to drivable trucks or trucks you are currently rebuilding, not the one that is sitting in the back 40 that hasn't been moved for 20 years.

71 F250 longbed 2wd "Big Red, Dick"
73 F100 shortbed 4wd "The War Machine"
01 F150 SuperCrew 4wd... I call it "S'crew"

EDIT: Only one vote allowed per userID.

I voted for the 4x2 since I have it currently. I did have a 4x4, but it started out as a 4x2.

2 wheel drive trucks are much more common around here. Browse through craigslist and there are far more 2wd than 4.

I imagine its a regional thing.

problem is out here is that most 4x4's have been parted out for their front axles for guys with chevy's and toyota's. Ugh it bugs me but what can you do...

I was wondering the same thing. In northern MN if you have a 4x2 you're stuck on the pavement unless it's a packed dirt road, especially if it's winter.

I'm sure Number Dummy has some compiled production numbers, but I'd have to hazard a guess that 2wd trucks far outnumber the 4x4's.

I'd guess about an even percentage of each have been lost throughout the years.

I would attribute the greater number of 4x4 trucks on the web and on this site to the fact that... well there are more guys that care about them that have 4x4's. Lots of the 2wd trucks were work trucks that nobody was ever passionate about and only a small percentage of that whole are posting online about their 2wd (me included in that minority).

Kinda like how you see more posted about Shelby Mustangs on the net over 6-cylinder coupes. Doesn't mean there are more Shelbys out there.

Just my $0.02 for feeding discussion.

So you are telling me that a 2wd with a locked rear will go better than my 4X4 with an open front and locked rear?

The reason that I avoid two wheel drive dents is the twin I-beam. I prefer the simplicity of solid front ends. That's why I have a '64 2wd.

I've had both and got tired of getting stuck in the field feeding or cutting wood. Because of winter I own two 4x4s 96 150 and 77 250. I vote 4x4! Getting to lazy for the snow walks.

Close to 50%.

Twofifty, Good question. How many of the trucks sold were 4x4 compared to 2wd. numberDummy?

WillyWonka. Where did you come from. It has been a while since I have frequented the forum, busy working on my truck. I have seen your name in lots of threads and most of your posts are off topic and end up in an argument with some well respected members of the forum.
