Horn wire blue with yellow stripe.....Should this test hot? The PO put a rocker switch for horn I replaced horn contact brush and trying to get horn button to work but want to test to see if its the directional switch or if maybe there is no power to horn part of column. '69 custom cab
There's a coil spring between the horn button and the steering wheel. The spring used with the horn button is different than the one used with the horn ring.
The horn relay is located on the right fender inner apron adjacent to the starter solenoid.
F100/250 2WD's & F350's have a ground strap that routes from the steering coupler (rag joint) to the firewall. If it's broken or missing, the horn won't blow.
No power at blue yellow stripe under steering wheel and bottom of column.
The PO ran a wire to a toggle switch from fuse box then to relay for horn. Where does original horn get power from? Is there a diagram for the 69 custom horn?
The original system has a wire hot at all times to the horn relay, which feeds both the activating coil and the output to the horn when engaged. The blue wire is the other end of the activating coil, which is grounded by the contacts in the horn button, completing the circuit, activating the coil which then closes the relay and sends power to the horn.
If there is a push button on the dash with a couple wires, it's a pretty good bet that that just sends power to the horn directly.
