May I hijack and ask if folks would buy an e99 again if they had the chance? I'm considering it for a part time use truck because there are some deals to be had out there.
Frank >> you've done a lot to yours to get it where you want it, including a PCM change.
Wondering if a stock version of this truck would do the job. I'm not in a hurry anymore to get up Stevens Pass at 55 with a 31' bumper pull. 40 is ok.
I really have no complaints about mine, except when it came to parts. A lot of parts counter twits don't listen when you tell them there's a difference between early and late '99.
Ok, so we just have to deal with looking up the right parts for these rigs, and in some cases paying more for e99 up pipes and such. Pika and Icicle are good with theirs. Anything else to consider?
no complaints from me, mine has over 330,000 miles, 4 inch strait pipe exhaust and 6637 intake are the only mods on the truck. it is only 2 WD and has a 6 speed trans. without towing here in the mountains I get 20 mpg.
with the service bed loaded with tools and equipment I am at about 10,000 lbs I can top out "sunset point" on I17 going north out of Phoenix at 90, it is 6-7% grade for 6 miles.
when I go to the mine and bring the bucket back I have my car hauler, 3,000 lbs and the bucket 6,000 lbs and I pull the grade on Iron springs road at about 40 mph it is 6+ % grade and 50 is the speed limit because of all the corners
as for the right parts! if it is something that is different than all the others I am most likely getting it from ford and they run the vin number in the parts computer so I have never gotten the wrong parts (yet)
This is all good to hear. Thanks for the info. If I do find a late 99 or 2K that fits, I'll get it, but will not exclude the e99, since I'm staying stock (oh no...they're coming...PMS demons - be gone!)
