I have an aftermarket transmission dip stick, that I bought from LMC. It is pretty much a piece of ****, but its shiny so they charge an arm and a leg for it. My issue is, it is leaking fluid around the opening for dipstick. Has anyone had this issue? I have messed with it several time to try and stop the leak but have had no luck.
My next step was gonna be to either change the "o" ring on the dipstick housing or put a little rtv on it, let it setup partially and insert it. The latter scares me because I dont want any rtv getting loose in there and clog the valve body.
Change the O-ring. If that doesn't work you can try the RTV but I'm not a big fan of using it in this application.
If any excess silicone gets into the tranny sump, the filter should catch it, just don't get carried away and use a half a tube.
i always put 2 O rings on and a light coat of RTV. never had a leak or problem with the trany sucking up the RTV. i also have a softail Harley and the dipstick has one O ring but there is 3 ridges in the cap so i put 3 rings on. it's really tight and Never leaks either. no RTV on the harley
