I got a 2009 Ford F-150 Lariat with a 5.4L 2WD. Recently I have had a whine coming from the front of the engine (best as I could tell). It would be exaggerated when your turn the steering wheel from left to right. I assumed an issue with power steering pump. Took it to dealership and they diagnosed the issue as needing to have the A/C Condenser and PowerSteering cooler replaced. From what I understand, these are the units are combined/housed together. They quoted a price of $1,250.00. About floored me. I usually do my own work on top side of motor, but have never done any AC work. Is this something that I could possibly do my own? What will these parts (I also assuming I would need to get the AC evacuated and recharged) cost me? Thanks
I changed the fluid and then I put some Lucas Power steering additive in my old 2003 F250.
When washing the engine compartment, water could get into the Power Steering reservoir and cause it to whine.
I do not know how to do it on an F150, but I would look into a fluid change, before I spent that kind of money.
