My rig is a 75 ford f100 390 that was converted from a 360. Edelbrock performer intake with 75 0 holley vaccum secondary's. Edelbrock performer plus cam. I got the stock manifolds on there right now with duals that have some random mufflers on there and then turn downs right before the axles . I want to get a set of good soundin mufflers that lets the 390 be heard. I ain't to crazy about glasspacks. But let me know what y'all think I'd appreciate it.
#1 get headers , the stock logs are killing that motor .
mufflers depend on how loud you want it .
1 chamber flowmaster= loud
2 chamber =a little quieter than above
turbo muffler = little quieter than 2 chamber
I got some flowmaster copies off eBay. Was $70 for two mufflers. They are welded and sound greAt behind a set of headers. Sound is not bad in the cab either. I just used straight pipe and turned down in front of differential.
shorty's are the ticket if you have the $$
I have Flotechs on mine, but my truck is a toy so maybe 50 miles a month .no starter issues (YET)
I have the summit brand 2 chambers , nice idle and gets loud when on the gas .
Got them flotechs as well. If starter goes I am going to pull motor up with cherry picker and not even try to wiggle it out. Bet my mufflers and those summit ones are about the same. Not exactly flowmaster but for the $ not bad at all.
If you want great sound without the drone, try Dynomax. I have them on my '65 390 and would not change them for any other brand. These are very high quality mufflers and sometimes you can find bargains on Ebay. Mufflers
