I have suddenly acquired a new value added feature to my X. An airbag warning light flashing code 18. Through the research I have found it is either a pretensioner issue or a short. Would like to know for sure what it is, if anyone could help.
It is a 2001 LTD 5.4L. Any info would be appreciated.
I've seen documentation that contradicts that, but let's go with it for now.
A code 18 says that there's a short in the circuit. Disconnect the pretensioner plug at the seat belt base and see if the code changes. If not, the short is further up the circuit. If it does change, the issue is in the plug or pretensioner.
Flash code 18 could either be Passenger Pretensioner Circuit Shorted to Battery or Ignition or Passenger Pretensioner Circuit Shorted to Ground. There are actually two different codes that if done at the dealer would specify if the short was to ground or battery.
Thanks guys. And don't worry about me taking things wrong in text form. I have very thick skin. I know that there are half a dozen different definitions on srs codes, which is why I thought I would throw it out there. I knew that I could not possibly be the only one that has ran into this. So I thought I would ask the experts.
Once again, thanks for the input. Time to pull out the multimeter and start tracing wires.
Just an update. Found the problem. When I pulled out the carpet to give it a good cleaning upon putting everything back in place I got a wire pinched. I traced wiring for a good hour until I found it. Everything is good once more.
