2001 Escape 6 cyl. Airbag light flashes constantly, it's a very fast flash and comes on as soon as the key is turned. There is no code flashed first, just goest straight into this quick flashing pattern and doesn't stop. Checked the connectors under the seats, both looked good, even tried moving the terminals a little to get more contact, did nothing! What kind of airbag fault would occur that wouldn't even set off any kind of code?
I do believe the flashes will give you the code. Kind of like morris code. Count the flashes and breaks. They will give you the fault. If you do ge it, do a serach and you should get your answer.
This was the case with my 01 F250. Based on the flasing, it was the passenger airbag switch.
But it's not flashing a code, it's a very very fast blinking, so fast you couldn't count the flashes if you tried. And it's supposed to flash the first digit, stop, then flash the second digit then go solid. This doesn't do that, it just keeps blinking at a steady fast rate.
You have a fault in either the RCM itself, a fault in the cluster, or a short in the wiring. I'd take it to someone who has the equipment to diagnose the system and find out. A short on the wrong wire can deploy the airbags, or worse, prevent them from deploying in an accident.
I was driving down the highway. Noticed my airbag light flashed quickly like a short and then BANG, passenger side airbag went off.
How do I disable the drivers side airbag so I can feel confident it win't go off in my face? Light is now on all the time...
Will Ford help me with an unexpected deployment?
Dealer was no help. Charged me $95 to tell me the module was not communicating.
Not sure if there is a fuse that you could pull or not but I'd contact NSTA and Ford Customer Service as this is a safety issue. There's a recall for older Jeep's right now for the same thing.
