Water Fuel Drain Line Modification?

Hey, I'm rebuilding the fuel bowl in my '96, 7.3 Powerstroke E350 van. I'm wondering if I can bypass the metal part of the water/fuel drain line that runs out of the bottom of the bowl, and then replace the old rubber to metal line with an all-rubber line instead.

I cut the old line to get it out, and damn, it looks like it would be near impossible to reconnect a new rubber piece to the old steel line that extends to the drain end.

You could just run hose. Zip tie it to the hard line.
