Weld a nut on the end and then back it out.

Yea, the welded nut works nearly everytime. Just sometimes you gotta weld a few nuts before getting one to stick. Then make sure the nut cools sufficiently before trying to unscrew it. Put some antisieze compound one the bolt threads and the shank and you'll never have that problem again. (unless you're just getting to "happy" with the wrenches)

Welcome to FTE!! Not an authority, seems trying to weld another bolt onto a shaft flush with the block could be problematic? I would proby start try using an easy-out; use a punch to set the mark then pre-drill with appropriate size bit and follow up with appropriate size easy-out.

It's not hard at all. The weld will not stick to the cast iron block, only the steel bolt. The trick is to hold the nut in place when working alone. I hold the nut in a box end wrench then nail the center with my Mig gun til the hole is filled. Once that's done, you let the weld and nut cool til it turns grey, then unscrew it. Like I said before, sometimes you may have to do it a few times before the weld holds, but once it does, the bolt will unscrew without effort. The weld allows you to catch the bolt, the extreme heat loosens the threads. This is far more effective than trying to drill the bolt and chance breaking an E-Z out in the hole. The E-Z out tends to expand the bolt as you try to unscrew it, the weld exerts no pressure on the threads. Once you've tried it, you'll toss those E-Z outs in the scrap bin.

Appreciate the information, thank you, yes using an E-Z out can be a pain in the backside.
