From what it sounds like and given the mileage I think it's time for a complete front end rebuild. Everything from ball joints to steering stabilizer.
I bought my 7.3 X with 270,000 miles on it and that's the first thing I did. I couldn't tell you how much Better it drove with a new front end. You never know the extent of the wear until you tear it down and start over.
There is no movement in the front end. Two owners ago brought the truck to Canada from Texas and took excellent care of it but he died and his wife traded it in on a Kia and that's how I got it
I'm leaning towards wheel bearings at the moment from the metal on metal sounds
You mentioned moving like a ship at sea. Now you are saying no movement?
by no movement I mean the you can not move the wheels (have play) left or right holding them with the front off the ground and with a big 10' bar under the wheel there is no movement in the ball joints or the bearings
there is a steel on steel sound when the road it rough like the sound of opening a steel door that is tight in its steel frame
that sound and that fact that my front wheels were warm after a 45 minute drive on the highway in the rain last night made me think maybe bearings.
$600 for a set of good bearings is a lot if its not the problem though
thanks
