Alright guys I was driving my truck last night and the clutch pedal lost pressure and is sitting on the ground now the truck is sitting in a parking lot I'm about 2,000 miles from home it's a 1997 ford f250 460 external slave so my question is can I buy a few tools and fix this in a parking lot or do I need special tools that I need to take this to a mechanic or anything the slave cylinder is what's leaking do I also need to change the clutch master? Any help?

You need a 3/32" punch to remove the pin holding the line into the slave.
A small pry bar or large flat blade screwdriver to pry the retaining clip off the bellhousing boss, and an Allen wrench to open the bleeder.
When you pick up a replacement and a bottle of fluid you will see what I mean and can probably get the tools you need.

These slaves are a PITA to bleed.
Seat the pushrod in the throwout arm and slip the slave onto the boss.
Fill the reservoir and while it is pouring out of the line reseat the line and insert the pin.
Refill the reservoir.
Leave the plastic retaining cup in place and push the throwout arm forward to release the ends of the band.
Open the bleeder and let gravity work until you see fluid coming out the hole.
Close the bleeder and push the arm forward to force air up the line.
Push half a dozen times -releasing slowly- then check the fluid level in the reservoir and fill if needed.

Try it with the parking brake engaged at this point and see if you can get it into gear without grinding.
If you get enough action to release the clutch (about 5/8") just drive it.
It will get better as you drive and the bubbles work their way up and out.

 

Cool if I have to do it that way I will I'm going to call a shop and see how much they will charge if I was back home I would already have it fixed I'm sure but I really don't wanna mess with it in a parking lot if it isn't to ridiculous to have someone else do it and I don't have to worry about it

 

It's simple enough to do, but expect to lose fluid because there's nowhere to attach a hose to the bleeder.
Can't take more than a half hour.

Since you are far from home, you may prefer to get the entire assembly (master, slave and hose) from Ford. It's already pre-bled, you just replace the entire hydraulic assembly.

 

Just got it done got the part from napa then didn't want to have to figure out how to tow it and then pay a mechanic and sit there and think about how much $ I could have saved doing it myself wasn't to bad the little pin was stuck in the old slave so I cut it out with my pocket knife that sucked and had a hard time with the plunger deal but it's done now thanks
