Question Newly Flooding

Ok guys, I know this has been talked about in several posts, but I am at a loss and the symptoms don't point to any one thing!

1967 with 352 and rebuilt carburetor:

Starts, runs but not smooth, then gas pours out of the top as it starts to idle, then dies unless I press the gas.

The only thing I had done between the time of running and not running is a paint job at the local paint and body shop and a fuel filter change. I am not sure if they emptied the gas tank to remove and paint behind it, but it was empty; therefore, running on fumes when I picked it up. I drove it home, but it has not started and ran since.

I've read these suggestion: pressure regulator, condenser, coils, spacers...

It already has a spacer, and the gas tank is brand new.

Why would a perfectly running fuel pump all of a sudden need a pressure regulator?

I've torn down and cleaned the carb, to the best of my abilities that is.

What am I missing? Seems very simple yet frustrating.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Float level or trash in needle and seat area keeping fuel from shutting off. Very frustrating when these things happen, when I rebuilt my engine and started it up it ran great then started flooding. I bought a rebuild kit and when I tore carb apart I found what I believe to be a piece of fuel line in the seat. Probably from where I had cut and fit the new line......

It's a mechanical fuel pump and an Autolite 2100. My first thought was trash/rust in the carb because of the junk I cleaned out of the fuel filter canister.

The float moves freely and seats properly, from top view of course, and I have taken it apart several times. How do you know when the jets have been properly cleaned other than putting it all back together and trying it again?

I'm still leaning towards floating trash as you guys suggested, but dang, how do you insure a fully cleaned carb?

Thanks guys!

Before putting on carb I blow into fuel inlet listen to hear if air goes thur. Do the same thing then gentle pick up float and no air should get thur. If it does you have a problem.

Is it possible the little wire on float is not connected right? Make sure it gets around the jet and is in the notch on jet. Guessing you've checked all lines and the rubber line under the cab floor on drivers side?

Is the float old? If old sometimes they leak and get gas inside causing them to sink a little.

THE FLOAT

The float, the float, the float!!! Yes, it was the freakin hole in the float! Took it off, shook it, heard fuel inside, replaced it with an old float from the old carb, and the old girl fired up like it has wanted to for days!!!

Can you hear my relief and excitement!!! Thanks again guys!!!
