79 302 auto running too hot

Last summer my truck was running hot based on the reading of the Temp gauge. If I turned on the cab heater it would drop back to the normal reading it had.
This spring I had the rad re-cored, there was a lot of white crap on the tubes looking down into the rad. I replaced the 192 F thermostat with the same rating stat.
First ride and after a little running settled down where it has always run based on the Temp gauge. Then after running for 10 min at 60 mph it started to climb in reading on the gauge. Turning on the cab heater did nothing to drop the temperature. It did not drop back to normal during the rest of the ride even with the cab heater on.
Outside air temperature was 55 F
Thanks for any ideas

If referring to the factory guessing gauge, its reading isn't really useful. I recommend installing an aftermarket gauge with numerical graduations so it provides the actual temperature rather than the Kentucky windage.

Add a bottle of Redline Water Wetter or Royal Purple's "Purple Ice"; and,

Did ya flush the heater core?

Thanks for the reply, I will get the recommended product. The heater has not been flushed but I get a ton of heat in the cab. What do you think about getting a complete cooling system flush?

That almost sounds like a water pump. I would replace it before doing much more. If that doesn't fix it then flush the entire system good. Also I know some of the 70s era engines had a bypass thermostat to keep coolant circulating and not letting the back of the block and heads get to hot but the replacements don't have the bypass. I have drilled a small hole in the flat of the thermostat and they stay cool but keep temp. But I could be thinking about the 335 series.
