My 1997 f250 stalled out and died as it did the battery light came on I thought it was the alternator again. I started it up but it was running rough, then I could smell something burning..Scared me to death..opened the hood and there was a live fire..not big but it was flaming...got it out and had it towed. Could this be due to the 09Sop recall even though when I put in my vin on the Ford owner website it said there was no recalls on it..But my friends who also own the same make and model received a letter regarding this recall...I have owned this truck since 2008 . Can't imagine what caused this fire..any ideals would be appreciated, Thanks
Glad no one was hurt and your truck didn't burn to the ground!
Ya, brake fluid leaks at the switch and can cause a fire. There is power to that switch at all times. All the recall does is add a fuse and if the switch is leaking they will replace that too under the recall.
By the way, I haven't had mine done yet, does anyone have a part # for the recall pigtail? I won't take my truck to my dealer, I'll buy it and do it myself.

Ask the parts counter if 1L1Z-9F924-AA is the right one for your truck. I can't see them not selling to you since it's a safety related thing. To me, refusing to sell it would open them up to a huge liability.
the fire was underneath the fuel filter housing.. we replaced the fuel vacuum sensor, I think that is what they called it.. there was a fuel leak around the fittings going into the fuel filter. that fixed the leak problem but the wires are still glowing red hot!!! the wires underneath the fuel filter...Why would this be happening. I still think it has something to do with the wiring harness and the cruise control problem but my son does not..
I will try to get one, it's in a friends shop right now..but the wires underneath the fuel filter gets red hot when you start it now,, diesel leak as fixed by replacing a fuel vacuum sensor ..we hoped that would take care of it..but
I'm still not sure what caused the fire.. does anyone have a picture of the wires that are causing the fires.. then I might be able to tell if it's the same as mine. like I said the wires that are glowing hot are below the fuel filter..and the fuel vacuum sensor was leaking fueling the fire..

Sounds like fuse 22 is wrong amperage and the fuel heater in the fuel bowl is shorting out.
Edit:
Wires under fuel bowl are.
ICP Sensor
Water in fuel
Fuel bowl heater
Vacuum switch
Hpop IPR
There are a few photos floating around if the fuel bowl. Google it.
Mine was done while the previous owner owned it. The dealer seemed to take pride in installing it with the least amount of effort as possible. Didn't even trim the tie wraps.

the recall you are referring to is for the brake light switch in the master cylinder, and the 6 inches of wire going to it. the repair is a new switch and a new wire harness with a fuse in it. it has nothing to do with anything near the fuel filter.
as was said above, check fuse #22 for proper size. it sounds like the fuel heater shorted out, and someone put a grossly over sized fuse in there which is now burning the power lead to the heater up.
