Engine Fire

I recently bought a 85' Bronco with a little over 56,000 miles on it. I worked with the person who owned it and knew she took good care of it. I have been driving it daily for the past couple of months, until it decided to go up in smoke. I stopped on my way home to purchase some cold ones and while I was paying for my beer a couple of people came into the store screaming a vehicle was on fire. I walked out to see my bronco in a huge ball of flames.

A friend told me that he just took his bronco into a dealership for some work and they told him he needed to get some recall work done on the fuel system for a know malfunction that could cause a fire.

I am curious if anyone has had this happen and what can I do if it was a failure due to a recall.

It says 246 units were affected. The recall was issued in late 1984. I doubt your rig was covered. If it was, I doubt it still would be.

Is yours a fuelie? Can you trace the source to the fuel rail?

Ford should be able to tell you with the VIN if the recall was ever done. Usually, the put stickers under the hood when they are done.

If the previous owner should have but didn't respond to the recall, and you can prove it, maybe you have a case there.

Good luck.

Find more through Google, or try direct to NHTSA.
