Gents,
I am trying to get my truck aligned and the caster is out of spec. One shop tried twice, without changing the ball joint camber/caster bushings which I asked them to do. My question is how much caster is too much? Max for my truck is 4.75 degrees and I am over 5 on both sides. It is a little work to go straight without constantly correcting. It has a 4" lift and 35's on it and all the front steering links and tie rods are new and it does have a drop pitman arm.
This does not add up. caster is what makes a vehhicle track on its own. u have over 5? On race cars most dial as much as can be had.it may steer a little harder at slow speed. caster on these straight axles is adjusted by the removable slugs in the upper ball joint.NOTHING else has anything to do with it.
are you sure you aren't -5* caaster needing +5*?
In an extreme situation if the camber slugs are not enough to correct the situation them a wedge shim between axle and spring though not supposed to be happening...that may be your only option.
i can not imagine not having enough adj within the axle though.a good alignment guy should be able to fix u up no prob unless your lift springs are maybe screwed up?
I currently have 5.4* and 5.2* caster. The spec is not more than 4.75*. The first shop did not replace the ball joint bushing and that is my concern. I would prefer it to be in spec and I am asking if too much caster is a problem? I am going to have another shop give me some input but thought I'd see how others with lifted trucks have their trucks set up. I think the first shop was too lazy to deal with the bushings.
