I've got 1 2011 F350 crew cab and my tires are about to the point that I need to replace them. I'm wanting a semi-aggressive tread so that I can get through snow and mud, but not too noisy on the highway. Can anyone give me a good recommendation? I've gone to a few tire dealers here and have quotes on Big-O Bigfoot AT, Cooper Discovery and Wild Country XTX Sport, but I'm open to other suggestions
For best performance in snow and mud, you will need 2 sets of tires. Unfortunately no mud tire is good in snow, and I've not seen a snow tire excel in mud. Now, there are models that handle both pretty well... I would head to TireRack.com. They know there stuff. They test every model tire they sell on test tracks, including sub-freezing test tracks, for 100s of miles. I've listed to some interviews with a guy from there and they know there stuff. They are more than a retailer. They have tech people you can call and will help you with the technical understanding of tires. There is a lot more to tires than I once thought.
I just replaced our BFG A/T...they lasted 3 years ,30.000 miles, and had hair line cracks all over the side...We use the truck only for towing our horse trailer....no BFG for me anymore.
We now have the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 installed, nice looking tire, and so far...they are doing great.
the best tires i ever had on any truck is the cooper AT-3's, and that is all i will ever buy from now on. very quiet for an aggressive tire, and last damn near forever..
mines not a 2011 but im sure you can still get them for that year... im running Michelin LTX A/T2.. I have been in Heavy Rain, Snow, Loose Gravel and havent had had any issue with them.. Not sure if you wanting a mud bogging tire so cant say for that kind of a condition but been on regular mud when it came to dirt roads after a heavy rain.. Didnt have problems there either..
They're pretty quiet to me. Managed to smooth out the ride a bit too so that it didnt feel like i was driving right on the rims feeling every little bump... The heavy rains i was in left some fairly deep standing puddles on the road which i was able to plow through those like they werent there.. the fun i had in the snow was when i went home over the winter while they were getting hammered with it. nice steep icy covered twisty mountain roads.. they handled well imo. hardly any slipping and sliding except when i tried to get a little too aggressive with the one icy hill. but that was my own fault there...
picture in case you were wondering on the tread pattern..
they had about 4 inches when i got there.. and had closer to a foot by time i left.. and just to note the "hills" they have back home are graded between 10-15%
Read lots of good stuff about the Michelin LTX AT 2. My father is on his third set of BFG AT KOs (gets around 40-50K out of them). He tried the MTR with kevlar but didn't like how they performed (or the noise) so he ditched those in less than 10K when one of them separated. I'm on my second set of BFG Mud Terrain KM2 tires. They do have some road noise and I only get about 30-35K out of them (they are mudders) but they claw their way through anything I've given them (except the snow, I don't get much chance in San Diego to test them in that).
I've always had good luck with the BFG AT KO's. Ran them year round when I was stationed in North Dakota, performed great across a wide variety of terrain from NoDak winters to west Texas desert & North Carolina mountain trails. Good mileage when rotated, even wear & durable.

Agreed cost and performance is hard to beat going with the Coopers. I had coopers on both my 2010 F-150's, Coopers are on my wife's 2003 F-250 and if I don't get OEM Michelin replacements for my 2014 it will get Coopers as well.
